چکیده

Soil organic carbon (SOC) and total nitrogen (TN) stock are key indicators of soil quality in tropical regions; however, their status is often degraded, especially due to massive deforestation natural forest areas associated with extensive agricultural land use. The aim this study was investigate the dynamics SOC TN different land-use systems Abobo woreda, Western Ethiopia. To analyze status, 80 disturbed (composite) 45 undisturbed samples were collected from top 20 cm five major types: forestlands, grasslands, recently developed commercial farmlands, old small-scale cultivated lands. results showed that varied significantly across types, mean ranging 32.23 Mg·ha−1 farmlands 54.54 forestlands. ranged 2.54 4.63 With forestlands as a baseline duration age 15 years since conversion, annual absolute rates change loss 0.49, 1.49, 0.39, 0.45 Mg·ha−1·yr−1 0.05, 0.14, 0.03, 0.04 for lands, respectively. revealed disturbance during forestland conversion tillage enhanced decomposition rate matter farmlands. Nevertheless, after abandonment vegetation restoration, capacities enriched It is, therefore, important effectively restore implement sustainable management practices.

The Effect of Land use and Soil Erosion on Soil Organic Carbon and Nitrogen Stock

Soil organic carbon (SOC) is a principal component in soil quality assessment. Knowledge of SOC and total nitrogen (TN) stocks are important keys to understand the role of SOC in the global carbon cycle and, as a result, in the mitigation of global greenhouse effects. SOC and TN stocks are functions of the SOC concentration and the bulk density of the soil that are prone to changes, influe...

Effects of Land Use and Land Cover changes on Soil Organic Carbon and Total Nitrogen Stocks in the Olesharo Catchment, Narok County, Kenya

Land Use and Land Cover Change (LULCC) is the most prominent cause of Soil Organic Carbon (SOC) variability in any landscape. Kenyan Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASALs) have been facing extensive land use/ cover changes in the last three decades prompting a review on the impacts it has on soil quality and consequently on land degradation. This study was carried out in 2016 in Olesharo Catchment, N...

Modelling tillage and nitrogen fertilization effects on soil organic carbon

1 Agricultural management plays an important role in global warming mitigation due to 2 its effects on soil organic carbon (SOC) dynamics. In Mediterranean agroecosystems, 3 the interactive effects of tillage and N fertilization on SOC storage have scarcely been 4 studied. Hence, we here present a modelling study in which the effects of both tillage 5 and N fertilization on SOC dynamics are inv...

Soil aggregate mediates the impacts of land uses on organic carbon, total nitrogen, and microbial activity in a Karst ecosystem

Understanding the effect of land use on soil carbon, nitrogen, and microbial activity associated with aggregates is critical for thorough comprehension of the C and N dynamics of karst landscapes/ecosystems. We monitored soil organic carbon (SOC), total nitrogen (TN), microbial biomass carbon (MBC), and Cmic: Corg ratio in large macro- (>2 mm), small macro- (0.25-2 mm), and micro- (0.053-0.25 m...
